The Côte-Rôtie vineyard is divided between the Côte Brune, upstream of the Reynard stream and the Côte Blonde, located downstream. In the Middle Ages, it was said that Lord Maugiron divided his estate between his two daughters, one brunette and the other blonde, whose names remained associated with wines.
The estate E. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, who arrived in the region in 1923 and worked to develop the appellation of Côte-Rôtie. Today, the succession is ensured by Philippe Guigal, the grandson of Etienne, brilliant oenologist, and proud representative of the 3rd generation.
This vintage 2002 features a ruby color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it is an explosion of perfumes and scents of black fruits, pepper and a subtle floral note. On the palate, this wine is remarkable for its finesse, silky structure and persistent length.
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – E. Guigal – Brune et Blonde 2002 rated 86/100.
