Belonging to Jean Pierre Moueix, the Château Magdelaine was a 1st Grand Cru classified B of Saint Emilion. Château Magdelaine has not existed since 2012, when its owner merged it with Château Belair Monange. Thus, it was located next to the castles Ausone, Belair, La Gaffelière and Canon la Gaffelière. The 11-hectare vineyard was located on a limestone plateau and cultivated in rational struggle at a density of 6,000 feet/ha. It was an 11 hectares vineyard, whose vines, aged about 40 years, were composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.
Emblematic vintage, Château Magdelaine 1994 reveals a dark orange color. The nose evokes notes of undergrowth, plum and sweet spices. The palate is ample and still nervous and extends with a complex and aromatic finish.
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – Château Magdelaine 1994 rated 90/100.
