Renowned as the largest exploitation of Burgundy (with 26 ha), the Château de Pommard is also one of its most majestic. Built in 1726, the castle belonged to the Marey-Monge until 1936, a notable family that helped establish the reputation of Pommard among the best red wines of France by traveling the world and tasting its nectars. For nearly 300 years, the Clos Marey-Monge has been passed from one prestigious wine family to another. But with the Laplanche family, the vineyard began to take on even more importance: it is the muse that inspired visionary ideas about the human condition. In 2003, the Laplanche family sold the entire Château de Pommard to the Giraud family.
This 1997 vintage is a full-bodied, elegant and racy wine, although marked by a certain heterogeneity due to the capricious climatic conditions of the year. On the palate, it offers a beautiful structure with aromas of black fruits, notably blackberries and blackcurrants, enhanced by notes of tobacco and pepper. The tannins are well integrated, giving the wine great finesse and a pleasant length.
