Château Carbonnieux has the distinction of having a vineyard equally divided between red and white grape varieties. In fact, during the classification of Graves wines of 1959, it was classified in red and white (it is one of the 6 castles of Bordeaux to be classified in both colors). The Château Carbonnieux has made enormous progress under the guidance of Denis Dubourdieu.
The white of Château Carbonnieux is a legendary wine. It is said that in the 18th century, it entered the home of the Sultan of Constantinople thanks to its great clarity, under the name Carbonnious mineral water thus defying the Koranic law.
The whites of Château Carbonnieux change strongly as they age. They develop a patina and the acidity gives way to a certain roundness. They evolve towards notes of dried fruits, dried orange zest and orange blossom, reminiscent of Provençal navettes. A surprising tasting that one usually remembers for life !
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – Château Carbonnieux 1988 rated 90/100.
