Located south-west of the town of Pauillac, the castle Batailley dates from the mid-nineteenth century. Its name refers to a battle between French and English that took place on its soil. This estate belongs to the Castéja family, which has other great wines. Today, it is Philippe Castéja who heads the Château Batailley. And to ensure the long-term quality of wines, he is advised by oenologist Denis Dubourdieu.
This 2004 vintage is a real success. It exudes tasty aromas of ripe red fruits with a touch of minerality. In the mouth, we find this festival of crunchy and round fruits, flexible and charming. They are underlined by the small woody note, dominated by cedar which continues on aromas of coffee, mocha with some reminiscences of blackcurrant liqueur.
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – Château Batailley 2004 rated 90/100.
