Château Bahans Haut Brion is the second wine of Château Haut Brion. Bahans being the name of the castle and the family of former owners of a land now integrated into the vineyard of Haut Brion. A few years from the 75th anniversary of the acquisition of the estate by the family of Clarence Dillon, the owners decided to rename this Second Wine and pack it in the same bottles as the great wine. Since the 2007 vintage, it is now called Le Clarence de Haut-Brion.
In a dark, burgundy with violet reflections, this 1999 vintage is very expressive by its aromas of waxed oak, leather and cherry with brandy. Round and ripe, its tannins are tasty and contribute to the balance of this beautiful set that fortunately concludes an elegant peppery finish.
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – Château Bahans Haut Brion 1999 rated 88/100.
