The Château Pape Clément, is located in Pessac, near Bordeaux. It owes its name and history to its most famous owner: Pope Clement V. It is one of the oldest Grands Crus in Bordeaux. Its vineyard dates from the 13th century and the first harvest took place in 1252. Château Pape Clément has belonged to the restricted circle of Graves’ Grands Crus since 1959. This property is one of the jewels in the crown of Bernard Magrez’s wide range of vineyards around the world.
This 2013 vintage features a deep ruby red robe with garnet reflections, indicating good concentration and maturity. The nose is complex and seductive, offering aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackberry, black cherry, and blackcurrant. Notes of cedar, tobacco, graphite, vanilla and dark chocolate are added, testifying to a well-integrated aging in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine is elegant and well structured with fine and silky tannins. The black fruit flavors are accompanied by spicy nuances, licorice, roasted coffee and cocoa. The finish is long and persistent, with a nice freshness that balances the richness of the wine.
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – Château Pape Clément 2013 rated 89/100.
