Château Beychevelle is a 4th Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, on the Saint-Julien appellation. Its name comes from the fact that boats ‘lowered the sails’, passing in front of the castle when it belonged to the Governor of Guyenne, in the 17th century. The current owner of the castle is the Castel Group at 50%, in partnership with the Japanese group Suntory. The estate consists of 250 hectares, including 90 hectares of vineyards.
This 2004 vintage reveals a discreet nose of caramel, hazelnut and milk chocolate, with notes of red plums and rosehip. The palate is pleasant, easy to approach, with well-present fruits. Slightly drying tannins on the finish.
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – Château Beychevelle 2004 rated 89/100.
