Passionate winemaker, André Romero created the Domaine La Soumade in 1979. In 1996, his son Frédéric joined him. In 2002, they began a collaboration with Stéphane Derenoncourt who introduced more gentle and precise winemaking methods to allow wines to gain purity and finesse. Today, the vineyard runs on 26 hectares in the town of Rasteau and 1 hectare in Gigondas on a small vineyard near the Dentelles de Montmirail.
This 2017 vintage is characterized by a concentrated, fleshy, broad body and an unrivaled ripe and blooming fruit. The bouquet is rich, with fine aromas, fruity and spicy and a dark garnet color very sunny. The nose reveals notes of red fruits and very ripe black fruits. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a fleshy attack and a very long finish.
This wine, however, needs a few years of cellar to tame its impressive density and tannin load due to excessive ripening.
