Château Chasse Spleen is an exceptional Grand Cru in Moulis in the Médoc. The story begins in 1760 under the ownership of Sieur Gressier. In 1822, the game of marriages and heritages splits the estate into two: Gressier-Grand-Poujeaux and Grand-Poujeaux Castaing. In 1976, Jacques Merlaut acquired the estate of Chasse-Spleen and it was his daughter Bernadette and her granddaughter Céline Villars who took over. In 2003, the Merlaut-Villars finally bought Château Gressier-Grand-Poujeaux and ended the history of the estate.
This 2016 vintage is adorned with a deep garnet, all clear and shiny. As soon as the olfactory attack, it reveals a very clear and expressive nose. The fragrances of black cherries and fresh red rose are displayed without restraint. When stirred, blackberry and pink pepper are in harmony. The mouth is broad, frank and dense on a tannic texture that is both tight, fine and satin. The finish is persistent on expressions of cocoa powder and fresh liquorice. There is no doubt that this Moulis has a very important aging capacity.
Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate – Château Chasse Spleen 2016 rated 93/100.
